Frequently Asked Questions
Hopefully below we can answer some of the questions you may have around the Coastal Relay. If you still have more questions then please contact us at CoastersGB
Q. Do I have to be an elite athelete to take part?
No, not at all. The whole idea of the event is that it is open to runners
of all abilities, from 2 - 3 milers up to 40 mile ultra nutters. Simply
sign up for whatever you feel comfortable doing.
Q. Do I need to belong to a club?
No, anyone can take part, the relay isn’t affiliated to any club or
organisation. It is simply, ‘just a bunch of people running round the UK
coast’.
Q. Why are you doing this?
Simple really, because we can!
Q. How many legs can I do?
You can volunteer for as many legs as you want in as many different
sections as you want. We also have an army of ‘floaters’ that will be used
to fill in legs that haven’t been allocated when the time comes.
Q. Someone else is already running the legs I want to do?
No not at all, just choose where you want to run and sign up. Obviously we
would like people to pick legs that haven’t yet been taken to ensure we get
as much coverage as we can, but there is no reason why you can’t double up
and run an already allocated leg. You’ll still be taking part, and that’s
what counts.
Q. Does it cost anything to run in the relay?
Nope, not a bean.
Q. Do I have to raise any sponsorship?
No. We are looking into sponsorship, and may well tie in with a national
charity, but anything raised by this would be down to the individual
runners and whether they wanted to raise sponsorship off the back of the
legs they are running. There is no requirement to raise sponsorship. The
aim is just to get people to take part.
Q. What about insurance?
As Coasting GB is a collective venture and each individual runner is reponsible for their own section of the relay,it is up to them to ensure that the route they take is safe and that nobody else is put at risk. We view this relay as a collection of linked training runs as near to the coast as deemed safe by those running. Therefore insurance is a matter for the individual runner to decide for themselves and Coasters GB cannot accept liability for any accident to or caused by that individual in his/her participation.
In joining in this collective venture, each runner is deemed to have accepted the above.
